Just gave this one a thorough inspection and deep cleaning. Plus, I was bored. No abnormal wear, but plenty of carbon fouling as always.
These rifles are “direct impingement” which means propellant gas is drawn off of a port in the barrel to unlock the rifle’s bolt and force it rearward. This expanding gas is sent from a gas block through a gas tube and into the bolt’s gas “key” which exerts force directly onto the bolt.
(just part of the semi-auto cycle)
Since gas is introduced directly into the bolt group, carbon and spent powder fouling builds up everywhere within the “upper” and “lower” halves of the rifle. These guns prefer to “run wet” (heavily oiled) and that enhances the build up level to over 9000. However, even with the dirtiest and cheapest ammo, the rifle will continue to run as long as it gets an occasional re-oiling.
All ready to get dirty again at the range.

Beautiful rifle! What is it?
My brother just finished building a .300 blackout AR-15 from the ground up. It’s an obscenely fun gun to shoot. I’ll try to find a pic and post it.

BCM A4 upper and a CMMG lower. 223/556. My original intent was to build an A4 variant clone but I haven’t gone all the way yet.

There is a big gun show going on the weekend after I get home from finishing finals. Plan on buying a 40. compact and getting my concealed carry license

I should go give my Muzzleloaders some love.

Have you considered a drop-in piston kit? You can fire off several mags and then pull the bolt carrier right out without burning your hand.

Ugh, I dont know. I’ve read all sorts of positives and negatives about a conversion and am not entirely sold. To be honest, I’d rather have a gun designed from the factory with a piston gas system instead.
Side note: I have my AK for a proper piston driven gun.

Nice. Need to get a free floating handguard. And an agled foregrip.

If you have to measure things in mm, 10mm is obviously the way to go.

That is a nice firearm.

Not this gun. My original intention was an M16A4 clone that uses the KAC M5 RAS (as seen). Otherwise, I’d agree on FF handguard.

CAT M-4, they are awesome for cleaning carbon build up. Spendy, but worth it.

I’ve got one. It takes ~30 seconds to get your bolt cleaned up. The biggest bonus is the total lack of risk to your fingers. No more worrying about your improvised scraper taking out chunks of knuckle.
